1. Statement of Commitment

The Shades of the Life Oxford Digital Design and Visual Art Studio (SOL) is committed to promoting equality, celebrating diversity, and fostering an inclusive environment for all children, parents, staff, and volunteers. We value every individual’s unique contribution and are dedicated to ensuring that everyone feels respected, safe, and supported.

 

2. Legal Framework

This policy is informed by the Equality Act 2010 and complies with all relevant UK legislation relating to equal opportunities and anti-discrimination.

 

3. Objectives

  • To promote an environment where everyone is treated fairly and with respect

  • To provide equal access to opportunities and support, regardless of background

  • To eliminate discrimination, harassment, and victimisation

  • To actively challenge and educate about prejudice and bias

 

4. Protected Characteristics

SOL recognises the following protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage and civil partnership

  • Pregnancy and maternity

  • Race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin)

  • Religion or belief

  • Sex

  • Sexual orientation

 

5. Implementation in Our Camps

  • Admissions: All children are welcome regardless of background. We make reasonable adjustments to support access and inclusion.

  • Curriculum & Activities: Content is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and reflects the diversity of our community.

  • Staffing: Recruitment, training, and employment practices are fair and inclusive.

  • Language and Behaviour: Discriminatory language or behaviour is not tolerated. Concerns will be addressed promptly.

 

6. Reasonable Adjustments

We aim to remove barriers for individuals with disabilities or additional needs by:

  • Providing adapted materials or formats where possible

  • Training staff in inclusive communication and support

  • Making physical and sensory adjustments where practical

 

7. Roles and Responsibilities

  • CEO & Camp Directors: Ensure the implementation and review of this policy

  • All Staff and Volunteers: Uphold inclusive practices, challenge discrimination, and model respectful behaviour

  • Parents and Guardians: Support our values and communicate any needs or concerns

 

8. Reporting and Complaints

If any individual experiences or witnesses discrimination, they should report it to the Camp Manager or the CEO. All reports will be treated seriously and confidentially. We are committed to resolving concerns promptly and fairly.

 

9. Monitoring and Review

  • Feedback will be collected from children, parents, and staff

  • Inclusion practices will be reviewed annually

  • Any incidents or adjustments made will inform future improvements
